The band was formed in 1973 by former members of  Stoneground  and  It's a Beautiful Day: guitarist  Dave Jenkins, keyboardist  Cory Lerios, bassist  Bud Cockrell, and drummer  Steve Price. The group was praised for its compositional and instrumental skill on the albums  Pablo Cruise  and  Lifeline, and was rewarded with the Top Ten hit "Whatcha Gonna Do?" in 1977 from  A Place in the Sun.  Cockrell  left and was replaced by former  Santana  bassist  Bruce Day.  Worlds Away  went platinum, as did its predecessor, and produced three hit singles, including the Top Ten "Love Will Find a Way." By the time the '80s rolled around, the new wave movement was in full swing on the pop charts, and the group fell out of favor with the record-buying public. Several  Pablo Cruise  songs were used as soundtrack material for sports programs on ABC, CBS, and NBC, and the band's work also appeared in the films Free Ride, An Unmarried Woman, and Dreamer.

Uptempo numbers with pop hooks dominate the set, the 12 songs zip by in an efficient 38 minutes, and instead of  Reed 's trademark meditations on the dark side of life, the lyrics are (for the most part) lean bursts of verse and chorus, in which the artist sings the praises of good times in general and rock & roll in particular (then again, on "I Believe in Love,"  Reed  pledges his allegiance to both "good time music" and "the iron cross," a bit of perversity to remind us whose album this is). But if  Rock and Roll Heart  sounds like " Lou Reed  Lite," there are more than a few flashes of  Reed 's inarguable talent. His band is in fine form (especially  Marty Fogel  on sax and  Michael Fonfara  on keyboards). "Banging on My Drum" is a crunchy rocker that recalls his work with  the Velvet Underground; "A Sheltered Life" is an amusing bit of  VU  archeology (the Velvets demoed the song, but this marked its first appearance on record); and the closer, "Temporary Thing," is a bitter, haunting narrative that foreshadows  Reed 's next album, the harrowing masterpiece  Street Hassle.

The three of them had been delivering mysterious space records on a regular basis, and their growing confidence with early synthesizers (the best that money could buy at the time) made them virtuosos of the genre, even as they kept things organic and unpredictable with gongs, prepared piano, and electric guitar. Rubycon has aged gracefully for the most part, making it a solid companion (and follow-up) to their 1974 album, Phaedra. The somewhat dated palette of sounds here never overshadow the mood: eerie psychedelia without the paisleys -- Pink Floyd without the rock. "Rubycon, Pt. 1" ebbs and flows through tense washes of echo and Mellotron choirs, as primitive sequencer lines bubble to the surface. "Pt. 2" opens in a wonderfully haunted way, like air-raid sirens at the lowest possible pitch, joined in unison by several male voices (someone in the band must have heard György Ligeti's work for 2001). Rising out of the murkiness, the synthesizer arpeggios return to drive things along, and Froese weaves his backwards-recorded guitar through the web without really calling too much attention to himself. The piece evolves through varying degrees of tension, takes a pit stop on the shoreline of some faraway beach, then ever so gradually unravels a cluster of free-form strings and flutes. The rest are vapors, your ears are sweating under your headphones, and the smoke has cleared from your bedroom. This is a satisfying ambient record from the pre-ambient era, too dark for meditation, and too good to be forgotten.

Acerca de La Guerra de los mundos: Es una de las adaptaciones más curiosas por su peculiar formato, se trata de La Guerra de los Mundos de Jeff Wayne, una adaptación musical de la obra de H. G. Wells. El disco, grabado en estudio, disfrutó de un gran éxito en el mercado anglosajón, contó en su momento con una adaptación al español con un joven Luis Varela como el artillero y la impresionante voz de Teófilo Martínez como narrador. La edición latinoamericana fue realizada por Anthony Quinn. La novela nos relata la invasión de la Tierra por parte de los marcianos. Ambientada en el final del siglo XIX asistimos junto a un periodista al descubrimiento de unas explosiones en Marte que serán seguidas más tarde por el impacto de unos meteoros en la campiña inglesa. De esos cráteres surgirán unas terribles criaturas que masacrarán a la población civil y exterminarán a las tropas que tratan de defenderla. El periodista tratará de regresar junto a su mujer y será testigo de las acciones de los marcianos y de la desaparición de los humanos. Finalmente cuando todo parece abocado a la derrota humana los marcianos perecen ante unas criaturas inferiores: las bacterias. Con esta obra Wells crea la primera historia de invasión extraterrestre de nuestro planeta. Se trata de una más de sus obras maestras de la ciencia ficción: La máquina del tiempo, El hombre invisible, La isla del doctor Moreau… Las canciones nos permiten conocer a los personajes de la novela y sus diferentes visiones de la invasión marciana. Las piezas instrumentales, con las acotaciones narrativas de Burton, llevan todo el peso de la acción de la historia y logran que entremos de lleno en ella. Mediante el uso de diferentes “leit motiv” avanzamos con nuestro narrador y en ningún momento nos encontramos fuera de la misma. Sabemos cuándo se lucha, cuándo la derrota se abate sobre los terrícolas, y, sobre todo, sabemos cuándo los marcianos están cerca por su continuado grito de “Ulloo”. Records) ran a USA & Canada only mail-order promotion on a number of the inner sleeves of their mainstream artist's releases. This was to promote a wide range of less popular artists on compilation albums known as the 'Loss Leader' PRO series, sold at a significantly reduced mail-order price. This Frank Zappa-oriented release is part of the series, although this particular compilation is also geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. These two labels were manufactured and distributed by Reprise Records. This Frank Zappa-oriented 'Zapped' release is the 6th issue in the series, a compilation geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. (These two labels were manufactured and distributed for Reprise Records by Warner Bros. Records from mid 1969 [Previously 7Arts]). The black & white cover of this PRO 368 release has a portrait of Zappa and the title is "Zapped" without an accent over the 'e' (as on a subsequent/similar PRO 368 release with a 'collage' cover & Reprise label). This vinyl's label is pale blue with a dark blue 'Bizarre' text. Issues did occasionally appear later in retail outlets, particularly in Australia.

That doesn't mean they aren't good, though, and tracks here like "Reet Petite" (written by a young  Berry Gordy  -- many of  Wilson 's songs during the Brunswick years were written or co-written by  Gordy), "Lonely Teardrops," the impressive and moving "Shake Shake Shake," "I Don't Want To Lose You" and "Satisfy My Soul" are all classics and show  Wilson 's considerable stylistic versatility.
