Johannes Schmoelling's influence is really felt for the first time here; Tangram, for all its crispness and melody, was simply a refinement of Force Majeure's principles, and the soundtrack to Thief not an album proper. On Exit, listeners are introduced to electronic music's next generation, notably on "Choronzon" and "Network 23," which brought the sound of the dancefloor into the mix (it hasn't left since). That's not to suggest that Tangerine Dream has stopped creating eerie, evocative music; both "Pilots of Purple Twilight" and the stately "Exit" will feel familiar to fans, and the opening "Kiew Mission" is a captivating commentary on nuclear war that includes vocals after a sort (a woman's voice reading locations in Russian). Exit ends on a surprisingly dark note, the alien and foreboding "Remote Viewing." It's on this track more than any other that Tangerine Dream returns to its past, invoking Phaedra and the sequencer-driven works that followed, as if to tell fans that Exit's changes weren't the result of a new band, just a new direction. With one foot in the excesses of the past and one clearly on the road to a more concise sound, Exit is a transitional work. As Schmoelling and, later, Paul Haslinger exerted their influence on Tangerine Dream's music, the emphasis shifted from dark and moody commentary to more positive subjects. It's worth noting that Edgar Froese's social conscience fuels much of Exit -- copies of the record were made available to a cross-section of Russian citizens free of charge to promote an open exchange of ideas at a time when nuclear annihilation was taken seriously. Future albums channeled Froese's activism to environmental concerns, which dovetailed with the band's by-then new age sensibilities. Both here and on White Eagle, Tangerine Dream ushers in the promise and the peril of a new world where reality has caught up with science fiction. Perhaps with such a message, the medium needed to be simpler and more direct.

Grabado en Rancho de La Luna, situado en el parque de Joshua Tree, y producido por Johnny Style (The Savages, John & Jehn) y Paulo Furtado. Para Tigerman lo importante son las raíces, la esencia de las cosas, la autenticidad, cruda y honesta. De 2001 a 2006 grabó tres discos que lo convirtieron en uno de los secretos más preciados de Europa, actuando en festivales desde Japón a Brasil. En 2009 publicó Femina, un disco dedicado a las mujeres con invitadas especiales como Asia Argento, Peaches, Lisa Kekaula, Becky Lee, Phoebe Killdeer, Cibelle, Maria de Medeiros… Poco después el álbum se convertía en platino en Portugal y era elegido como uno de los discos del año en publicaciones como Les Inrockuptibles, Rock & Folk, Telerama y El País, entre otras. Conciertos con las entradas agotadas, festivales, alabanzas de la crítica… El secreto estaba desvelado. En 2014 ve la luz True, aunque es una luz más oscura, más compleja. Es rock & roll pero con orquestas, vientos y batería, con honestidad brotando de cada esquina y sonido de este espectacular disco. Amplias giras llevaron el potente directo de The Legendary Tigerman por Europa, Brasil, México o China pero no ya como un one-man-band sino tocando en formato trío con batería y saxo barítono. La historia del esperado sexto disco de The Legendary Tigerman, Misfit, empieza con una road movie, How To Become Nothing, un proyecto a tres bandas de Paulo Furtado, Rita Lino y Pedro Maia. En mayo de 2016 el trío aterrizó en Los Ángeles para grabar una aventura psicodélica con forma de road movie entre Los Ángeles y Death Valley, sobre el viaje filosóficamente perturbado de un hombre intentando convertirse en nada. Durante dos semanas de viaje, Paulo Tigerman Furtado pasó los días escribiendo los diarios de este hombre imaginario, actuando, mientras que por las noches, en habitaciones de moteles del desierto californiano y provisto de una Gibson SG, empezó a componer las canciones de Misfit. El álbum se grabó en Rancho de La Luna, el mítico estudio de Dave Catching en Joshua Tree, en pleno desierto del Mojave, y Johnny Style (The Savages, John & Jehn) lo mezcló y coprodujo en París en los estudios Pop Noire. Moving Waves o Focus II es el segundo álbum de estudio de la banda holandesa de rock progresivo Focus, publicado en octubre de 1971. Presenta una de las canciones más famosas de la banda, "Hocus Pocus", que incluye yodels y voces en falsete acompañadas de un riff propio del heavy metal. Siendo un disco con un sonido bastante experimental, alcanzó el noveno puesto en la lista holandesa de los 40 discos más vendidos y octavo en el Billboard Hot 100 de Estados Unidos, mientras que en el Reino Unido llegó hasta el 2º lugar. La canción "Eruption" es una extraordinaria adaptación de la ópera Eurídice (de Jacopo Peri), a los sonidos del Rock progresivo. La misma narra la trágica historia de amor entre Orfeo y Eurídice. Aunque Holanda ya había arrojado bandas de relativo éxito internacional como Golden Earring o Shocking Blue, no fue hasta la aparición del segundo disco de Focus, cuando finalmente se produjo un impacto relevante que duraría varios años. En medio de la efervescencia del rock progresivo y el hard rock, el cuarteto de Amsterdam formado por Thijs Van Leer (teclados, flauta y voz ocasional) y Jan Akkerman (guitarra) en 1968, logró superar el incierto comienzo con Focus Play Focus (1970) (más conocido como In and Out of Focus), con este soberbio manifiesto de creatividad que recogía influencias de Jethro Tull y Deep Purple, entre otras bandas. Con la inclusión del gran baterista Pierre Van Der Linden y el bajista Cyril Havermans, más la producción de Mike Vernon, la banda grabó un segundo disco en el que exploraron desde el rock progresivo más intenso y frenético, con elementos del jazz, hasta baladas melódicas y temas de guitarra clásica. La gran apertura del disco con el inolvidable tema “Hocus Pocus” fue una puerta de entrada triunfal. Aún hoy resuena esa canción construida sobre la base de un potente y pegadizo riff de guitarra que se repite varias veces, varios solos frenéticos del propio Akkerman, una batería imparable y diversas partes en las que Van Leer utiliza falseto y una forma de cantar que recuerda a los tiroleses. “Hocus Pocus” logró colarse en las listas de éxitos a ambos lados del Atlántico, recibiendo suficiente atención y tiempo al aire en emisoras de radio como para que Focus pasara a ser una banda respetable y muy bien cotizada. En 2010, el tema volvió a primer plano al ser elegido para una pieza publicitaria de la marca Nike, sonando en la final de la Uefa Champions League de 2010 y en la Copa Mundial de Suráfrica. También fue sampleada por el rapero J Cole para el tema “Blow Up” que aparece en el videojuego “MLB 11: The Snow”, y fue escogida para la banda sonora del remake de “Robocop” en 2014. Luego de “Hocus Pocus”, el álbum continúa con “Le Clochard”, un corto y melancólico tema de inspiración barroca que Akkerman toca con guitarra clásica y Van Leer acompaña con un delicado mellotron. El propio guitarrista aporta la delicada balada “Janis”, en la que Van Leer toca varias capas de flauta, y este sigue con “Moving Waves” al piano, con letra del poeta sufí Inayat Khan. El lado A del disco lo cerraba “Focus II”, una balada blues-jazzeada característica de cada disco de la banda hasta el día de hoy y que siempre han sido tituladas con un correlativo en números romanos. La gran suite instrumental “Eruption”, de 22 minutos y medio, ocupa todo el lado B, subdividida en 15 partes que fluyen como un todo y que en definitiva catapultó a Focus a las grandes ligas del rock progresivo, dominado para entonces principalmente por bandas británicas. El título del tema es muy adecuado ya que a lo largo de su desarrollo hay momentos de auténtica erupción volcánica y otros de tensa calma, y espacio para el lucimiento de cada uno de los músicos. Sin duda, era un auténtico “tour de force” para el joven cuarteto holandés. Afloran en él diversas referencias, entre ellas la ópera “Eurídice” de Jacopo Peri que aquí es traducida al idioma hard rock, una melodía de “L’Orfeo” de Monteverdi, un segmento de “Tommy” de Tom Barlage, influencias de Frank Zappa en la sincopada “The Bridge” y algunas más, todo sin menoscabo del aporte que como compositor realizó Van Leer. Es, sin duda, una obra épica y definitiva en la carrera de Focus, que aún estaba por arrojar otros dos discos fenomenales (Focus III y Hamburger Concerto), antes de perderse en una nebulosa de jazz-rock-funk de poca trascendencia. Focus II / Moving Waves fue lanzado en octubre de 1971 y 45 años después todavía destila una frescura notable y una energía lejos de extinguirse.
