Por supuesto, su increíble voz es el atractivo que lo hizo tan popular entre sus contemporáneos, gente que se reunió y se mezcló como Bob Dylan, Joan Baez y otros artistas que encontrarían fama en la época. Hay un fragmento famoso de imágenes de películas antiguas en las que Joan Baez habla de que Richie es el que todos los demás artistas querían ver actuar.
