Guitarra española y metonimias flamencas florecen en este, teóricamente transicional, trabajo instrumental, que se convertiría en uno de los más populares en la discografía de Toti Soler. Este álbum de 1973, junto con otros discos de la época, forma parte de las simientes primigenias en la creación de la fusión flamenca.  Las áridas pero magnéticas notas de ‘Sardana flamenca’, primer corte del disco, se hincan en el subconsciente. Un trabajo que Soler grabaría con el único acompañamiento de su guitarra española excepto en los cortes eléctricos en donde otros miembros de OM le acompañan. Reeditado en vinilo por primera vez. Incluye encarte con notas del periodista musical Jaime Gonzalo y una foto inédita de Toti Soler. El homónimo Segundo álbum de Toti Soler junto con Sabicas, los Smash de 1971-72 y las grabaciones de Paco de Lucía con el músico de jazz Pedro Iturralde, resultaron ser las simientes primigenias en la creación de la fusión flamenca que tanto ha dado de sí. Todos ellos cambiaron la percepción que se tenía del género, redefiniendo sus límites y posibilidades. Esa síncresis de Soler entre Hispalis y el Mediterráneo catalán, otra suerte de “fusión”, la haría paradójicamente posible Edigsa, el sello con el que más a menudo trabajó el guitarrista, cuyo espíritu fundacional regía la lícita salvaguarda del catalán. En 1972 la ancestral llamada del flamenco depositaba a Soler en Andalucía, donde estudiaba la materia bajo el doctorado de Diego del Gastor. A su regreso a Barcelona, daría inicio a un longevo capítulo paralelo como acompañante acústico del cantautor alcoyano Ovidi Montllor, dejando la electrificación y el rock atrás. Sin embargo, los watios y el rock aún lograrían colarse en este segundo LP (homónimo pero también conocido como “El Gat Blanc”) de 1973, aunque con un papel menor. Guitarra española y metonimias flamencas prosperaban en este teóricamente transicional trabajo instrumental, que se convertiría en uno de los más populares de su discografía. Igual que una calada mañanera de costo del que beatifica, a esa hora en que al llamado aire libre le suena el despertador, la síntesis operada en ‘Sardana flamenca’ resulta aromatizada, hipnótica, luminiscente. Y mágica, a pesar de su sui generis concepción. La canción formaba cuadríptico con las siguientes tres piezas: ‘El Gat Blanc’, ‘Tristenge’ y ‘Guisela’; abluciones en aguas flamencas perfumadas con sales folk-blues. ‘Taj Mahal’, a la mitad del álbum, es un tributo a su amigo y compañero músico, donde la batería hace una aparición tímida, dejando claro ya a esas alturas el triunfo de Soler en su empeño, por mucho que este se quedara en prototipo, según él. La cara B comienza con ‘D´una manera silenciosa’, una adaptación de ‘In a silent way’. Deliciosa flamenquización, tan sutil como el original, y el primero de los dos únicos temas electrificados del LP, aunque tan discretamente que ni se percibe de lo fino que hila el voltaje. También íntima, armada de ese virtuosismo nada propenso al alarde y tan distintivo del autor, ‘Balada en sol’ recobra la guitarra española con una transportadora travesía, zarpando del litoral del Maresme rumbo a la bahía de San Francisco. ‘Sevilla’, el tema más largo, se convirtió en la canción más popular del disco tras ‘Sardana flamenca’. En él detonaba un chispeante encontronazo freak entre Smash y Hot Rats, de hecho la grabación final de OM, con cabida para musculosas improvisaciones y revueltos raudales de wah wah. “Puede que haya influencias de Zappa pero el modelo que seguíamos era Miles Davis”. Peter Hammill Peter Hammill Peter Hammill Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill es un músico multi instrumentista, poeta y compositor, ícono referencial y pionero del Rock progresivo de los años 70. Fue fundador y líder de la emblemática banda británica Van der Graaf Generator. En 1968 abandonó sus estudios y se vuelca de lleno a su pasión por la música, al tiempo que comenzó a desarrollar su gran despliegue creativo hasta el presente. Su arte fue caracterizado siempre por un gran espíritu de innovación y eclecticismo que ha servido como referencia de grandes bandas progresivas de la época. La poesía de Hammill, a veces oscura y excesivamente misteriosa, le ha valido críticas no siempre benévolas desde los medios y publicaciones especializadas, lo cual poco pareció importarle. Su carrera como músico solista presenta un difuso límite entre sus creaciones personales y aquellas desarrolladas desde el grupo Van der Graaf Generator, pues su estilo inconfundible se hace presente tanto en uno como en otro ámbito, inclusive compartiendo frecuentemente sesiones de grabación con varios de los músicos integrantes de la banda. Tanto es así que el primer disco editado por Van der Graaf llamado The Aerosol Grey Machine, hasta último momento se suponía que iba a ser un trabajo solista de Hammill. En 1971 realiza su primer disco solista Fool's Mate, que contiene canciones de principios de los años 1967/68 de Van der Graaf Generator. En 1974 aparece el álbum denominado In Camera, en el cual interpreta todos los instrumentos. El resultado fue una obra de cierta oscuridad conceptual, muy elaborado y profundo. El mismo año Hammill publicó asimismo su libro de poesías e historias cortas titulado Killers, Angels, Refugees, incluyendo en él una selección de sus letras de canciones. Desde 1969 - año en el cual se dio a conocer con Aerosol Grey Machine - no ha dejado de hacer música, su discografía abarca tantos estilos musicales que sería inútil tratar de encasillarlo en algún género.
