Cruzaron el charco con enorme éxito y fueron mucho más apreciados en Norteamérica que en su Inglaterra natal protagonizando giras y presencia en las listas de ventas con sus primeros álbumes. Lo dicho, desde Getting to the Point (1968) hasta Hellbound Train (1972) estuvieron en la cresta de la ola. Luego ya se sabe, como a multitud de formaciones de la época las tensiones, las giras, los numerosos cambios de personal, el desgaste y la mala vida los azotaron causando inestabilidad y altibajos. Kim Simmonds (compositor, guitarrista y cantante) es su alma y único músico que no ha abandonado la nave desde que empezaron a ensayar en un local del Soho londinense en 1965. Pasados los años de gloria nunca dejó de actuar ni de grabar discos alternando a partir de los noventa grabaciones en solitario o añadiendo en la portada su nombre junto al de la banda. Uptempo numbers with pop hooks dominate the set, the 12 songs zip by in an efficient 38 minutes, and instead of  Reed 's trademark meditations on the dark side of life, the lyrics are (for the most part) lean bursts of verse and chorus, in which the artist sings the praises of good times in general and rock & roll in particular (then again, on "I Believe in Love,"  Reed  pledges his allegiance to both "good time music" and "the iron cross," a bit of perversity to remind us whose album this is). But if  Rock and Roll Heart  sounds like " Lou Reed  Lite," there are more than a few flashes of  Reed 's inarguable talent. His band is in fine form (especially  Marty Fogel  on sax and  Michael Fonfara  on keyboards). "Banging on My Drum" is a crunchy rocker that recalls his work with  the Velvet Underground; "A Sheltered Life" is an amusing bit of  VU  archeology (the Velvets demoed the song, but this marked its first appearance on record); and the closer, "Temporary Thing," is a bitter, haunting narrative that foreshadows  Reed 's next album, the harrowing masterpiece  Street Hassle.

Though some fans may have taken a pass on the movie, they spurred "Thieves in the Temple" to gold status, going to number one R&B and number six pop in the fall of 1990. The Top Ten R&B/pop Graffiti Bridge soundtrack went gold, spawning the single "New Power Generation" and the million-selling Top Five R&B/number 12 pop single "Round and Round" by Tevin Campbell.
