This listing is for an assortment of Hawaiian sea glass and beach finds. Assortment is mostly large chunks of bonfire beach glass, but there are regular sea glass pieces, pottery and ceramics in mix. Majority of mix is rounded, tumbled pieces, but there are less tumble pieces, as well as some seashells. Mix is sold by weight. Select options from drop down menu. Sea glass mix will be randomly selected from lot shown in photo. Photo was taken indoors in natural sunlight. Zoom in for close up details and taking these factors into consideration. Sea glass pieces were likely antique and vintage glass bottles, jars, glassware, medicine vials, and decorative pieces. (It takes anywhere from 50 to 100 years for vintage beach glass to take on their rounded finish and pebble-like shapes.) A 50g skein of organic 100% wool yarn (DK) spun from wool from our flock of Lleyn sheep farmed to organic standards for over 25 years. The wool is gently plant-dyed in small batches. This wool is gentle to the environment and to you. DK thickness approx length 100m (108 yards) per 50g and 13wpi. I measure the length of the wool quite conservatively without stretching the wool unduly. Lleyns are a British breed of sheep, originally from Angelsey in Wales and reputed, in the very distant past, to have Merino ancestors in the mix. It is a medium soft woollen spun yarn with a good amount of bounce which takes dye and washes well and is lovely to knit or crochet with. It is suitable for making items to wear for all ages: scarves, hats, gloves, jumpers, cardigans, baby bootees, cot blankets, Fairisle knitting, to make dolls, and toy animals, to make phone socks, egg cosies or other items. I dye the wool in small bathes using organic plants from my garden, a small selection of plant extracts and cochineal (not a plant), and some plants from elsewhere, without the use of potentially harmful metal mordants. This creates a palette of soft gentle colours. The natural process allows for subtle variations of colour, making each batch and the item you create with it unique. You will see from the drop down menu how many I have of each colour. If some are recently sold and I have not yet updated the quantity and you order an item that is not in stock I will contact you to let you know and offer a close alternative (some colours are very similar) or refund straight away. Plants I used: Madder, Cochineal, Damson and Rhubarb in different combinations for: Rosy Glow, Rich Rosy, Rosy, Dusk, Dusky, Dusky Rose, Rosy, Dusky Pink, Rosy Dusk, Cerise, and Lilac Madder alone or in combination with other plants for: Orange Terra, Rosy Peach, Pink, Pale Peach, Peach Rose, Peach, Pale Apricot, Pale Amber Alchemilla Mollis for: Dark Honeycombe, Honeycombe, Olive Tansy for: Tansy, Pale Tansy Dock for: Spice and Butterscotch Walnut for: Walnut, Pale Walnut, Dark Walnut, Very Pale Walnut, Nutty Weld for: Pale Primrose and Pale Moss Buddleia for: Buttercup, Sunshine Yellow, Primrose, Grass, Pistachio, Pale Grass Nettle for: Nettle Honey, Pale Nettle Honey St Johns Worth for: Lattte, Dark Latte Dandelion for: Vanilla Extract bought in based on Cutch for: Cinnamon, Cerise Turmeric for: Turmeric, Pale Apricot Indigo for: Grass, Pistachio, Pale Grass I re-skein each skein, removing any knots and tangles in the process, to make it as easy as possible to wind the yarn into a ball. The wool washes well. As with all wool gentle washing is recommended, at luke-warm or cool temperatures, either by hand or on a gentle wool setting in the machine, with washing products recommended for wool. Watch the spin speed which has to be very, very gentle for wool. I hand-dye small batches but if you would like a larger batch of a colour I can dye to order, provided the plants are in stock or/and in season. It usually takes up to a week to dye and dry a batch, but for some colours the process is more lengthy. As batches are not identical the colours can vary somewhat from a previous batch. I have done my best to show colours as accurately as possible, but it is difficult to accurately reflect colours on digital appliances. If you would like more details on a colour do ask me. I can also take a photo of the skeins you will be sent for approval before posting. My woolbands are made with recycled paper, outer packaging is recyclable (& made from sugarcane) and for inner packaging I re-use clean packaging or if non available paper, or non-plastic cellophane. I try to keep my prices as reasonable as possible but the cost of the carding and spinning at the mill and also the postage have risen a lot recently so sadly I have also had to raise my prices this year.

My puzzles are best suited for crossword aficionados. They conform to the standards of professional American crosswords – rotational symmetry, every letter square gets used twice (once across, once down), 3-letter minimum for words, all that jazz. Every puzzle starts with a theme and a handful of good words and phrases to go with it. In our case, the theme is generally your giftee, and the words and phrases are things that they love. But you can't just feed a few words into a machine and out pops a top-notch puzzle – constructing a high-quality crossword is an iterative process that requires considerable thought and attention to detail. That's what I'm all about. You specify the difficulty level (easy, moderate, challenging) and provide me with the inspirational fodder to construct the basic framework of your puzzle, then I take that information and just go to town with it. Within *eight days* of your order I will email you a digital file of the completed puzzle in multiple formats (DOCX, PDF, PNG) for you to do with as you please – print it out no-frills, put it in a birthday card, get it professionally printed on some fancy hard stock with a gaudy border – I'm not here to tell you how to live your life, I'm just here to construct crossword puzzles. If you need to understand my justification for that, I am happy to chat with you. FAQ Q. How many words or phrases can I request to be included? A. Please give me as much to go off of as possible, but generally expect around *20 to 25%* of the completed puzzle to be words or phrases that directly relate to the information you provide me. A 15x15 puzzle has 70-odd words, more than half of which are between 3 and 5 letters long. So if you have lots of small, vowel-heavy words, I might be able to squeeze more in. Otherwise, the more *specific* words or phrases you want to include, the more I will need to employ obscure terms, acronyms, and lesser-known foreign language vocab to connect everything together. Q. Why can't I just give you 70 words to smush into a crossword? A. That's just not the way crosswords or the English language work, for better or worse. Your standard NYT weekday puzzle will have *4* long-ish themed entries, because that's already relatively difficult to design around. You'll get those long ones *plus* whatever else I can reasonably cram in there without making the rest of your puzzle completely illegible with acronyms and crosswordese. Let me be perfectly clear – not every entry will relate to the list you provide me, not even half. That is impossible to do while adhering to crossword construction standards unless the list you provide is so broad as to encompass thousands of subjects. Another tool of customization is leaning more heavily on the clues to relate certain words back to your specs. For instance, say you wanted to include JACKNICKLAUS in a puzzle, alongside half a dozen other long-ish terms. It may just be impossible to find a good place among the lexicon you've provided for a 12-letter name with two Ks and a J. On the other hand, PAR (or PGA or GOLF or USOPEN, etc.) might fit into the puzzle, so for the clue I might write, "Goal for Jack Nicklaus." It may not be quite as satisfying, but it's generally the best way to squeeze the most personalization into a puzzle. Thus, looser themes are easier to construct around than strict vocabulary. Q. Why is shipping listed at all if you're selling digital files? A. Etsy doesn't seem to understand that made-to-order digital downloads exist. So if you list your product as a digital download, the buyer has to receive something immediately upon payment and the transaction will automatically be deemed complete, which (1) makes no sense with made-to-order products and (2) doesn't provide leeway for you and I to hammer out the details of your puzzle before and after I start working on it. So that's what's going on there. Q. Why is there only one of these available and didn't it used to be more/less expensive? A. This is a side gig for me. My time is limited, so I only accept new orders when I know I have the capacity to work on them. Generally, if this or the 21x21 listing happens to be sold out, I will renew it within a couple days. As I've grown this little shop, I have begun experimenting with dynamic pricing, so if you are reading this it means my schedule is basically full, but I would be willing to log a bit of overtime for the listed price.
