ABOUT THE MAKER: Peter Carl Fabergé, also known as b'"'Karl Gustavovich Fabergéb'"', (May 30, 1846 – September 24, 1920), was a Russian jeweller, best known for the famous Fabergé eggs, made in the style of genuine Easter eggs, but using precious metals and gemstones rather than more mundane materials. In 1885, Tsar Alexander III gave the House of Fabergé the title; ‘Goldsmith by special appointment to the Imperial Crown’. The Tsar also commissioned the company to make an Easter egg as a gift for his wife, the Empress Maria. The Tsar placed an order for another egg the following year. Beginning in 1887, the Tsar apparently gave Carl Fabergé complete freedom with regard to egg designs, which then became more and more elaborate. According to Fabergé Family tradition, not even the Tsar knew what form they would take—the only stipulation was that each one should contain a surprise. The next Tsar, Nicholas II, ordered two eggs each year, one for his mother and one for his wife, Alexandra. The tradition continued until the October Revolution. El cristal esmerilado es un cristal convencional al que se le ha realizado un proceso de esmerilado, que lo vuelve opaco, manteniendo sus propiedades originales. Este pequeño jarrón florero de forma cilíndrica se convierte así en la superficie perfecta sobre la que representar una delicada decoración típica Art Nouveau, un tranquilo paisaje fluvial tras unos finos árboles que cortan la imagen, característica que demuestra la influencia de la estampa japonesa. Tanto el paisaje como los colores escogidos son los habituales en estas creaciones de la marca. Este maestro vidriero francés practicó todas las técnicas del vidrio, y fue un gran admirador de Emile Gallé, a quien trató de imitar en diversas piezas artísticas. Frosted glass is conventional glass that has undergone a grinding process, which makes it opaque, maintaining its original properties. This small cylindrical vase thus becomes the perfect surface on which to represent a delicate typical Art Nouveau decoration, a calm river landscape behind some fine trees that cut the image, a characteristic that demonstrates the influence of the Japanese print. Both the landscape and the colors chosen are common in these creations of the brand. This French master glassmaker practiced all glass techniques, and was a great admirer of Emile Gallé, whom he tried to imitate in various artistic pieces. Legras' artistic creations are not always signed, which makes this small vase an original and unique piece. About François-Théodore Legras (The Vosges, 1839 - Paris, 1916) François-Théodore Legras' childhood was spent in a small village, near Claudon, surrounded by nature, in the heart of the Darney Forest, one of the most beautiful in France, which most likely marked his career, becoming the greatest source of inspiration for your creations. Very soon he entered a glass factory near his native village, initially as an office worker, and it was here where he learned the trade.
