Capas de tradición avant-garde culminan en un conjunto de temas que van más allá de ellos mismos. En una época de creciente desesperación emerge un disco extraño: un manifiesto desintegrado que explora la verdad del desacuerdo. Con la participación de Cathleen Schuster, Moor Mother, Farahnaz Hatam, Colin Hacklander, Marcel Dickhage y Lucio Capece. Songbook #7 cuenta con la participación de Farahnaz Hatam, Colin Hacklander, Lucio Capece, Moor Mother, Cathleen Schuster y Marcel Dickhage y se grabó en noviembre de 2017 en el festival Digging the Global South en Colonia, mientras Europa se venía abajo lentamente. Justo hace 100 años Europa se deshacía de verdad. Sin embargo, había una propuesta para un futuro colectivo en proceso. Este songbook toma dos momentos como inspiración histórica para repensar el presente: 1) Los primeros siete meses de 1917 en la Rusia revolucionaria. 2) La figura de Germaine Berton (retratada en la portada), la anarquista que en 1923 fue acusada de matar a Marius Plateau, director de la organización de extrema derecha francesa Action League. En una época de guerra y fascismo, esas fueron dos respuestas muy diferentes: un intento colectivo de transformación social y un solitario gesto desesperado. Ninguna respuesta consiguió realmente derribar el capitalismo pero tenían una motivación y una idea clara sobre cómo actuar, algo que parece faltar en la actualidad. Si anteriores songbooks trataron sobre la tensión entre improvisación y la estructura de canción, entre un énfasis sobre la producción del momento y el tener un armazón estructural, aquí la tensión se produce al enfrentar el presente y el pasado, y al hacer eso también se explora la tensión entre comunismo y anarquismo. La tensión entre el individuo y lo colectivo también está presente en el disco (especialmente en el tema 6, una discusión sobre sus propios objetivos y grados de éxito). Alguna reseña de Songbook #6 llegó a tomar el nombre de Mattin como el nombre del grupo, lo cual lleva a cuestionar qué es Mattin realmente: otro ejemplo de la ficción de la concepción de uno mismo. Songbook #7 trata algunos de los asuntos más importantes de la actualidad: la disolución y el desengaño del tejido social, el auge del fascismo, la falta de coherencia en una visión colectiva del futuro y las deficiencias de la democracia en un sistema capitalista. Los tiempos que corren se parecen a estar atrapado en un gif, y aquí la respuesta es buscar una comprensión diferente del tiempo y de la historia. Si se precisan referencias musicales, es posible imaginar una de esas colaboraciones entre Red Crayola y Art and Language si estuviera producida por Roberta Settels, o si a Rabit le pidieran remezclar La Fabbrica Illuminata de Luigi Nono, teniendo en cuenta la demolición en 2005 de la fábrica Altoforno di Cornigliano.
