-------- Wonderful Japanese porcelain tea or coffee set consisting of a teapot, milk jug and sugar bowl service, and six cup and plate stands. This type of porcelain is called “eggshell” and is characterized by being extremely thin and fine, with even translucent walls, and is generally white in color, therefore resembling the shell of a bird's egg. The polychrome focuses on the handles, all of them orange, with thin black lines on the edges and a main element of geometric-vegetable shape combining both colors that is present in all the pieces. Each piece features the signature on the base. The porcelain paste is composed of a mixture of kaolin, quartz and feldspar, selected very carefully to choose the highest quality, with a very fine grain. Kaolin is a pure, highly refractory clay, which is responsible for giving the paste translucency and whiteness. The feldspar acts as a melter during firing, and the quartz appears as a fundamental element for the formation of the pieces. The result is a material of great hardness and resistance, practically waterproof, and that acquires a shine and whiteness unthinkable for ceramics thanks to the temperature it reaches during firing. Material: Porcelain Period: 1960s Country of origin: Japan Good condition according to its age and use Detailed dimensions: (1) Teapot: 14 x 22 x 13 cm. (1) Sugar bowl: 13 x 15 x 10 cm. It is considered that Japanese pottery emerged in the thirteenth century when a craftsman named Kato Shirozaemon techniques imported from China. He installed his furnace in Seto in Aichi Prefecture today, and first produced ceramic Chinese style in Japan. The setomono term (part of Seto), one of the terms for ceramics in general, comes from this first production. This art was an important development in the sixteenth century due to the growing popularity of the tea ceremony. Many workshops around the country were opened, but note specially the establishment in Arita in Saga Prefecture, Korean potter Lee Pyong Sam in 1598 Arita porcelain is still among the most famous in Japan. Throughout the Edo (1603 - 1867) period, many daimyo (feudal lords) potters invited to settle on their land to produce high quality ceramic. This is how a particular art independently developed Chinese influence. Japanese ceramics are often described as sophisticated and subtle. Characteristics are their irregular shapes, demonstrating the sense of naturalism in the creation of man. There are many workshops in Japan, each with its peculiarities. All styles of traditional ceramics reflect the local environment and history. Many of the furnaces can be visited. Here is a selection of the most famous, from north to south. It will be packed in a black Ali Kintsugi embossed box surrounded by gold tissue paper as per the image in the gallery. Please message me directly if you would like an additional message on the back of your card. WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU USE ? Japanese porcelain and ceramics sourced from an Australian wholesaler. Our supplier works directly with family owned kilns in central Japan where the clay is found. These families have made household items for generations mainly from Central Japan, as this is where the clay is from. The tableware they source is seldom seen outside of this area and is often only used in restaurants and homes in the areas around the makers’ kilns. Due to its handcrafted nature there are variances in the glaze and finish. The picture you see in the gallery, is the actual piece you will receive. I do not mass produce Kintsugi pieces. WHAT IS THE KINTSUGI PROCESS: I currently use the latest in preservation and restoration techniques due to 7 years of traditional restoration experience. Be reassured this piece is built to last and will not deteriorate or change colour over the years. We use a combination of conservation and restoration products. The gold effect is achieved via a combination of pigments and mediums. These will not change colour over time as they contain no copper or irons. WHY DO YOU NOT OFFER A TRADITIONAL METHOD OF KINTSUGI? Traditional Kintsugi uses a lacquer made from a plant in the poison Ivy family. I am allergic to poison Ivy and most modern Kintsugi is made using an Epoxy. In inexperienced hands this will change colour if it is untreated and discolour your piece. I do not use real gold because of the cost. If I did this piece would be $400-$600 more. AFTER CARE: DO NOT USE FOR FOOD DO NOT wash with water Use a DRY CLOTH to dust and clean your piece. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: If you have any problems or questions please feel free to message me and I will accomodate you as best I can. Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken items and highlighting the repairs in gold. Recognising that it is the flaws and “scars” that make you stronger, beautiful and unique. This is used as a metaphor to describe ourselves. The new you will be better, bolder and brighter than you were before. There is no need to hide the extraordinary person you truly are. I hope the repaired Kintsugi piece you have received resonates with you and reflects the strength and beauty you possess.

kintsugi, Japanese gold restoration bowl, gray wabi sabi bowl with relief decoration, contemporary ceramic restored in real gold. Kintsugi in Japanese literally means “fixing with gold” and it represents the beauty of imperfections. Kintsugi is a restoration technique that started in Japan centuries ago. Kintsugi is the idea of embracing the flaws and imperfections of something that was once broken to get an even stronger and more precious piece of art. The cracks repaired with gold, represent the story of the pottery, an unrepeatable story which make every piece unique. Kintsugi is a great one-of-a-kind art piece that has great sentimental value, since it represents the strength and effort behind every single scar and the ability to recover from a trauma into a new form that is even stronger and more precious than before. This is a reproduction print of an Uhu (Whiptail Parrotfish). Uhu are some of the most recognizable fish in near-shore waters by divers and snorkelers. Their bright, vibrant colors and bird-like mouths used for crunching coral have appropriately earned them the name Parrotfish. Gyotaku is the traditional Japanese method of printing fish, a practice which dates back to 18th century Japan. Before the invention of cameras and photography, fishermen used ink and hand-made wash paper to skillfully pull an impression from the surface of their fish. These early works were used solely to record the size of their catches for record keeping. Throughout the years, Gyotaku has evolved to become a refined art form of it’s own. Each gyotaku is 100% original and has it’s own distinct character; there will never be two prints that are exactly alike. Every scale and detail of the fish will be mirrored precisely in a gyotaku impression, accurately portraying and paying honor to it’s life and beauty. The non-toxic paint used in Brandon’s impressions washes away with water, ensuring that every fish is safely and respectfully consumed after being printed and nothing is ever wasted. Printed on heavyweight, textured fine art paper using archival quality pigment-based inks. Unframed print size is 13"x19, framed option is also available. Total size of framed print will be 16"x22". Picture and video included to show what a framed product would look like.
