THE CURE - CONCERT (THE CURE LIVE) - ALBUM VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION POLYDOR 1984 THE CURE - CONCERT (THE CURE LIVE) - ALBUM VINILO ORIGINAL PRIMERA EDICION POLYDOR 1984 Concert es el primer álbum en vivo de la banda británica de rock, The Cure. La edición en cassette fue doble, ya que contenía el resto de caras B y se tituló Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984. El disco es el resultado de las grabaciones de los conciertos que dio la banda en el actual Hammersmith Apollo de Londres y en Oxford en mayo de 1984. La portada fue diseñada por el mismo Robert Smith, bajo el seudónimo de Toberr, con un fotograma de vídeo de una emisión de televisión en directo el 25 de agosto de 1984 durante el concierto que The Cure ofrecieron en el Barrowland Ballroom situado en Glasgow, Escocia y que tenía la intención de que ilustrase un disco pirata de la banda. Algunos de los temas que los Cure tocaron en los conciertos de mayo de 1984 en Oxford y Londres durante la gira promocional del álbum "The Top", se inmortalizarían en el primer directo oficial de la banda de Robert Smith. Además, la inclusión de " Charlotte sometimes " permitió conocer más ampliamente una de las rarezas inéditas publicadas en formato single de The Cure. Del frío y experimental "Seventeen seconds" se recogería " A forest " en una psicodélica versión que se convertiría a posteriori en la joya del siniestro afterpunk. Finalmente, para cerrar este álbum " 10:15 Saturday night " y " Killing an arab ", los dos temas de su primer single con aquel primerizo powerpop característico. En definitiva, en "Concert - The Cure Live" se recogían las mayores virtudes del primer y más interesante período de una de las bandas más exitosas de la década de los 80. The album was a Top 10 hit in the UK, and was their first studio album to break the Billboard 200 in the US, reaching number 180. Melody Maker praised the album as "psychedelia that can't be dated", while pondering, "I've yet to meet anyone who can tell me why the Cure are having hits now of all times." The Cure then embarked on their worldwide Top Tour with Thompson, Anderson and producer-turned-bassist Phil Thornalley on board. Released in late 1984, The Cure's first live album, Concert consisted of performances from this tour. Near the tour's end, Anderson was fired for destroying a hotel room and was replaced by Boris Williams. Thornalley also left because of the stress of touring. However, the bassist slot was not vacant long, for a Cure roadie named Gary Biddles had brokered a reunion between Smith and former bassist Simon Gallup, who had been playing in the band Fools Dance. Soon after reconciling, Smith asked Gallup to rejoin the band. Concert: The Cure Live is the first live album of English rock band The Cure. It was recorded in 1984 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London and in Oxford. Its cassette tape edition featured on the B-side a twin album of anomalies, titled Curiosity (Killing the Cat): Cure Anomalies 1977–1984.

OSCAR PETERSON: TRAVELLIN' ON [UK 1969] LP OSCAR PETERSON: TRAVELLIN' ON [UK 1969] LP (MPS - Polydor)  1969  made in UK cat. num.  583 772 #jazz   A1 Travellin' On 2:25 A2 Emily 10:08 A3 Quiet Nights 7:20 B1 Sax No End 5:52 B2 When Lights Are Low 10:49   This is yet another memorable concert by  the Oscar Peterson Trio  recorded in  Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer 's excellent studio. With bassist  Sam Jones  and drummer  Bobby Durham,  Peterson  tears into the old gospel favorite "Travelin' On" with a passion second to none. Following it is a beautiful treatment of  Johnny Mandel 's timeless ballad "Emily," which runs for over ten minutes but never loses its impact.  Durham  sets the pace with his soft percussion to set up  Antonio Carlos Jobim 's "Corcovado" (later known as "Quiet Nights"), though  Peterson  devours the song whole with a breathtaking display of his formidable technique.  Francy Boland 's "Sax No End" was a relatively new composition, having been recorded for the first time just the previous year by the Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland Big Band. But one can almost hear a larger ensemble by listening to  Peterson 's virtuoso interpretation in an uptempo setting, assisted by  Jones ' agile bass and  Durham 's steady percussion.  Peterson  cools off his audience with an extended exploration of  Benny Carter 's "When Lights Are Low," though his fresh approach makes it seem like a brand new composition. Like other releases in  Oscar Peterson 's Exclusively for My Friends series,  Travelin' On  is warmly recommended.

Con sus dos estupendos albumes, sonaron bastante en las emisoras del Reino Unido y otros países (España, entre ellos), y llegaron a actuar en varias ciudades europeas. Pero lo que condenó a la banda de Liverpool fue, probablemente, que llegaron tarde a la fiesta. La segunda mitad de los 80 fue un momento dulce para el pop-rock inglés e irlandés, que consolidó a grupos como U2, Simple Minds, Dire Straits o Simply Red. Pero los RCP se subieron al carro en 1989, cuando el movimiento languidecía, y a pocos meses de la explosión, al otro lado del Atlántico, del fenómeno grunge. La banda aguantó como pudo el desinterés por el folk-rock, y aunque llegó a lanzar en 1991 un segundo gran LP, acabó deshaciéndose pocos meses después. River City People - This Is The World [4:57] River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986, by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". " This is the World " followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

Joining  Adderley  for the six tracks here are fellow  Davis  alumni  Philly Joe Jones  on drums and  Bill Evans  on piano. These three are augmented by the wonderful and often-underrated  Blue Mitchell  on trumpet and the equally illustrious  Sam Jones  on bass. Everyone is in top form on a varied set that takes in two  Adderley  originals (the fine ballad "Straight Life" and "A Little Taste"), a classic  Gigi Gryce  number ("Minority"), and  Miles ' oft-covered "Nardis." Filling out the program, we have a rare  Sam Jones -penned cut, "Blue Funk," and a lone standard in the  Rogers & Hammerstein  chestnut from Oklahoma, "People Will Say We're in Love." One of the highlights from  Adderley 's hard bop prime. "Things Are Getting Better" This title provides ample evidence why alto  Cannonball Adderley  is considered one of the masters of his craft. Here he joins forces with  Modern Jazz Quartet  co-founder  Milt Jackson  on vibes to create a variety of sonic atmospheres. They are backed by the all-star ensemble of  Wynton Kelly  on piano,  Percy Heath  on bass, and the one and only  Art Blakey  on drums. The moody "Blues Oriental" opens the set with  Jackson  immediately diving in with his trademark fluid runs and shimmering intonation.  Adderley  counters with a light and lively line that weaves between the rhythm section. The optimistic "Things Are Getting Better" is a good-natured romp as the co-leads trade and cajole each other into some downright rollicking exchanges. This directly contrasts with the sultry "Serves Me Right," which allows the combo members to demonstrate their collective musical malleability. The interaction between  Adderley  and  Jackson  sparkles as they entwine their respective playing with an uncanny singularity of spirit. The cover of  Dizzy Gillespie 's "Groovin' High" contains another spirited performance with some thoroughly engaging improvisation, especially during  Adderley 's voracious solos. "Sidewalks of New York" bops freely as  Jackson  unleashes some sublime licks against a hearty and equally boisterous sax.  Adderley 's "Sounds for Sid" demonstrates his uncanny ability to swing with a strong R&B vibe. With drop-dead timing and profound instrumental chops, this cut is undoubtedly one of the best from  Adderley 's earliest canon. The album concludes with a jumping reading of  Cole Porter 's "Just One of Those Things." While  Wynton Kelly  has been uniformly solid, his interjections stand out here as he bridges and undergirds the two as they banter with flair and aplomb. This set can be recommended without hesitation to all manner of jazz enthusiast, as it quite literally offers something for every taste. [Some reissues include two bonus tracks supplementing the original seven-song running order, alternate takes of "Serves Me Right" and "Sidewalks of New York."]

I've got the next dance b. when love comes calling   One of the most distinctive vocalists who arrived during the soul era,  Deniece Williams  is known for soaring, four-octave soprano voice, late-'70s and early-'80s R&B classics such as "Free" and "Silly," and the 1984 number one pop hit "Let's Hear It for the Boy." Born  June Deniece Chandler  in Gary, Indiana, she grew up singing in a Pentecostal church, which forbid the congregation to listen to anything but gospel music. Outside of wanting a 1959 Thunderbird, she had no serious ambitions but was deeply interested in music. Her favorite singers were  Carmen McRae  (for her diction) and  Nancy Wilson, who, for  Williams, exemplified class and elegance. However, her she also looked up to her parents, both of whom sang. From 1968 through 1970,  Williams  recorded a handful of singles for the Chicago-based Lock and Toddlin' Town labels as  Deniece  (or Denise)  Chandler. None of them charted, but "I'm Walking Away" and "Mama, I Wish I Stayed Home" became Northern soul cult classics.  In need of employment and with college on the back burner, the fledgling singer was introduced to personal hero  Stevie Wonder  by John Harris, her cousin from Detroit, who happened to be on tour as a valet for  Wonder  (and was also his childhood friend). Her cousin arranged for  Williams  to meet  Wonder  backstage at a concert. Six months later,  Williams  was flown into Detroit by  Wonder  for an audition. Among the 26 who auditioned,  Williams, who sang "Teach Me Tonight," was one of three hired by  Wonder. The three became known as  Wonderlove. Her touring with  Wonder lasted for several years, a period in which she recorded background vocals for  Talking Book,  Fulfillingness' First Finale, and  Songs in the Key of Life,  Wonder -produced  Syreeta  and  Minnie Riperton  sessions, and other releases by the likes of  Esther Phillips  and  Roberta Flack.

La Marshall Tucker, fue la banda que cerró el triángulo de oro dentro del rock sureño junto a las otras dos más representativas del género, The Allman Brothers Band y Lynyrd Skynyrd, teniendo cada una de estas formaciones caminos y orientaciones diferentes, pero tomando como base el sonido y sentimiento sureño como raíz de su música. El distintivo esencial de la Marshall y el sello único e inconfundible que marcó su obra fue el Country-Rock y la cultura "cowboy ", adoptando cierta actitud derivada del "salvaje oeste" en su música, llevada a cabo con gran acierto por los hermanos Toy y Tommy Caldwell. Nunca renunciaron a otros estilos como el rythm & blues, rock, blues o incluso el jazz, dada las aportaciones de unos magníficos, extraordinarios e incansables músicos que eran pura energía, sobre todo en sus memorables directos. Realizaban actuaciones increíbles, llegando incluso a ser delirantes para un público súper entregado. "Where We All Belong" doble álbum y tercero en su discografía, fue publicado en 1975 y se compone de una parte grabada en estudio y otra en directo, además de suponer un punto crucial en su carrera. Comienzan con el clásico "This Ol'Cowboy", un bello tema dedicado al héroe de Toy Caldwell, el actor y mito eterno del Western, John Wayne. Como dato anecdótico, posteriormente Caldwell le compraría el caballo que utilizó en 1969 en la oscarizada "True Grit" (Valor de ley). De claro estilo country-rock, con el uso de instrumentos propios del género como el banjo, Steel- guitar, la flauta o el violín, nos encontramos temas como "Low Down Ways", o una auténtica balada romántica "In My Own Way". El resto de temas de esta parte fueron grabados en los estudios Capricorn, todos ellos soberbios y podemos destacar "Where A Country Boy Legends", que contó con la ayuda de un guitarrista excepcional llamado Elvin Bishop, que en años anteriores participó con los Allman Brothers y en esta ocasión a la slide-guitar. En la parte de estudio, la Marshall estuvo formada por Toy Caldwell a las guitarras, su hermano Tommy Caldwell (bajo), George McCorkle (guitarra y banjo), Jerry Eubanks (flauta y saxo), Doug Gray (voz) y Paul Riddle a la batería. Estos eran los integrantes originales de la banda, a la que se incorporaron un buen número de músicos de reputado prestigio como fue el caso del legendario Charlie Daniels al violín, Paul Hornsby al piano, Johnny Vernazza a la slide y entre otros, al anteriormente mencionado Elvin Bishop. La segunda parte del álbum fue capturada el 11 de julio de 1974 en el Uhlein Hall Arts Center de Milwaukee, con la banda original y la inestimable colaboración de Charlie Daniels. Abren con la incendiaria y explosiva "Ramblin'", un tema rápido con un Toy imparable a la guitarra eléctrica, equiparándose a leyendas como Duane Allman. En "24 Hours At A Time", se puede disfrutar de uno de los temas más recordados y de una formación sobresaliente, ejecutando una colosal jam que se convertiría en su himno oficial. A continuación desgranando el clásico de B.B King "Everyday (I Have The Blues)", una Marshall pletórica nos obsequia con otro espléndido tema. Y para finalizar "Take The Higway", otro de sus clásicos. Unidos bajo un mismo sentimiento, "The Marshall Tucker Band" originarios de Spartanburg en Carolina del Sur nos dejan uno de sus álbumes más célebres, siendo uno de los mejores exponentes dentro del rock-sureño y narrándonos sus epopeyas por el "viejo oeste" como si fuésemos viajando en una antigua diligencia... Esta banda maravillosa formada en 1971 en Spartanburg, Carolina del Sur, por los hermanos Caldwell, Toy a la guitarra y Tommy al bajo, el cantante Doug Gray, el guitarrista George McCorkle, el batería Paul Riddle, así como Jerry Eubanks a las flautas, combinaba a la perfección el Rock, con el country, con el blues y con el Jazz. La banda adquirió un notable reconocimiento en los años 70 (época de apogeo del Rock Sureño), pero la muerte de Tommy Caldwell en accidente de coche en 1980, y el abandono de Toy Caldwell en 1982 para iniciar una carrera en solitario llevó a que la banda se disolviera en 1983. A finales de los 80 la banda se reformó, liderada por Gray y Eubanks, y con diversas formaciones y con muchos cambios, la banda sigue hoy en día, aunque lejos del esplendor de los años 70.- Yo reconozco que le tengo un cariño especial a esta disco, que está compuesto en parte por material de estudio, y en parte por grabaciones en directo. Destacan, además de la mencionada "How can i slow down", temas como "This Ol' Cowboy", "Low down ways", o la brutal "Ramblin'".
