It is a fun home decor piece, but also a record of our experiences together on the open road. My family is eager to fill in all the states in the US! Perfect for the camper and the living room couch! It is a great conversation piece! The pillow sham comes with the outline of the United States screen printed with a beautiful dark brown ink that goes with almost any decor. Then YOU can CUSTOMIZE IT by coloring in the states you have visited with colored fabric markers or paint to create your own unique pillow. Find a scrap of material to test your markers on to get a feel for how they color. (I recommend Crayola Fabric Markers because they are not too wet and apply light even color.) • Put a paper towel under the top layer of fabric to avoid bleeding onto other layers of fabric. • Start with a light color first. We suggest starting with a light color so that you can see how the color absorbs. In most cases, I feel like it’s best not to color up to the line until you know how far your markers might bleed. Do not apply a lot of pressure or let the marker sit on the fabric. • Use light strokes and draw very lightly. Try to hit only the top layer of fibers. You can always add more layers. If you get too much ink on the item, it will bleed across the lines. • Heat set your item according to the marker directions. Most of the time, this requires heating your item with an iron.
