Pistas: 1 – So Long 5:01 2 – Acrobats 2:42 3 – The Worker 3:35 4 – Wax Dolls 2:46 5 – Remember Russia 3:38 6 – Going Deaf For A Living 3:32 7 – Room Service 3:44 8 – Pretty Paracetamol 3:59 9 – Marliese 3:52 10 – You'll Never Find Brian Here 2:10 11 – Berlin 4:34 12 – Battalions Of Strangers 5:06 13 – Bathroom Scenario 3:50 14 – Wristcutters Lullaby 2:49 15 – Crazy Girl 4:27 16 – Limbo 2:15 Fischer-Z were a British rock band formed in 1976 by John Watts and Steve Skolnik at Brunel University. The original line-up consisted of Watts (vocals, guitar), Skolnik (keyboards), David Graham (bass) and Steve Liddle (drums). The band's name is pronounced "fɪʃə zɛd" (fisher zed), a pun on "fish's head" with the "h" dropped, as is usual in many British regional accents. The pun also relies on leaving the "r" unpronounced as in common British non-rhotic accents. Fischer-Z's first hit was "The Worker" from the album Word Salad which firmly established Watts' ability to convey worldly political issues in narrative songs against a background of quirky pop and reggae-influenced music. In an interview in Record Mirror in 1981, Watts put this down to the remix of the song from the album version, which put the emphasis on the keyboards rather than his guitar. Skolnik departed after their second album Going Deaf for a Living, leaving Watts to take over keyboards. Watts' lyrics draw heavily on his experiences of studying clinical psychology and as a mental health care worker. Several songs on their third album Red Skies Over Paradise in 1981, such as "Berlin" and "Red Skies Over Paradise" were about the Cold War and the song "Cruise Missiles" was about the nuclear arms race and the mutual threat of the superpowers with nuclear war. Fischer-Z were more popular in mainland Europe than their native UK, especially in Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Portugal (two top 10 hits and a No. 3 album). Fischer-Z were also successful in Australia, where they achieved two Top 20 hits with "So Long" from the album Going Deaf for a Living and "The Perfect Day" from Reveal.[2] After the album Red Skies over Paradise Watts dissolved the band in mid-1981, deciding his art could not evolve within a band context.

Records) ran a USA & Canada only mail-order promotion on a number of the inner sleeves of their mainstream artist's releases. This was to promote a wide range of less popular artists on compilation albums known as the 'Loss Leader' PRO series, sold at a significantly reduced mail-order price. This Frank Zappa-oriented release is part of the series, although this particular compilation is also geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. These two labels were manufactured and distributed by Reprise Records. This Frank Zappa-oriented 'Zapped' release is the 6th issue in the series, a compilation geared to promoting both the artists 'signed' to Zappa and the two labels, Straight and Bizarre Records, which Zappa co-founded with Herb Cohen. (These two labels were manufactured and distributed for Reprise Records by Warner Bros. Records from mid 1969 [Previously 7Arts]). The black & white cover of this PRO 368 release has a portrait of Zappa and the title is "Zapped" without an accent over the 'e' (as on a subsequent/similar PRO 368 release with a 'collage' cover & Reprise label). This vinyl's label is pale blue with a dark blue 'Bizarre' text. Issues did occasionally appear later in retail outlets, particularly in Australia.

TANGERINE DREAM: EXIT [UK 1984] CD/RE TANGERINE DREAM: EXIT [UK 1984] CD/RE (Virgin) 1984 made in UK cat. num. CDV 2212 #space rock #progressive rock 1 Kiew Mission 9:18 2 Pilots Of Purple Twilight 4:19 3 Choronzon 4:07 4 Exit 5:33 5 Network 23 4:55 6 Remote Viewing 8:20 Exit marks the beginning of a new phase in Tangerine Dream's music: Gone were the side-long, sequencer-led journeys, replaced by topical pieces that were more self-contained in scope, more contemporary in sound. Johannes Schmoelling's influence is really felt for the first time here; Tangram, for all its crispness and melody, was simply a refinement of Force Majeure's principles, and the soundtrack to Thief not an album proper. On Exit, listeners are introduced to electronic music's next generation, notably on "Choronzon" and "Network 23," which brought the sound of the dancefloor into the mix (it hasn't left since). That's not to suggest that Tangerine Dream has stopped creating eerie, evocative music; both "Pilots of Purple Twilight" and the stately "Exit" will feel familiar to fans, and the opening "Kiew Mission" is a captivating commentary on nuclear war that includes vocals after a sort (a woman's voice reading locations in Russian). Exit ends on a surprisingly dark note, the alien and foreboding "Remote Viewing." It's on this track more than any other that Tangerine Dream returns to its past, invoking Phaedra and the sequencer-driven works that followed, as if to tell fans that Exit's changes weren't the result of a new band, just a new direction. With one foot in the excesses of the past and one clearly on the road to a more concise sound, Exit is a transitional work. As Schmoelling and, later, Paul Haslinger exerted their influence on Tangerine Dream's music, the emphasis shifted from dark and moody commentary to more positive subjects. It's worth noting that Edgar Froese's social conscience fuels much of Exit -- copies of the record were made available to a cross-section of Russian citizens free of charge to promote an open exchange of ideas at a time when nuclear annihilation was taken seriously. Future albums channeled Froese's activism to environmental concerns, which dovetailed with the band's by-then new age sensibilities. Both here and on White Eagle, Tangerine Dream ushers in the promise and the peril of a new world where reality has caught up with science fiction. Perhaps with such a message, the medium needed to be simpler and more direct.

Track listing: All songs written and composed by Martin Fry and Mark White. Side one 1. "Fear of the World" 3:50 2. "Be Near Me" 3:37 3. "Vanity Kills" 3:28 4. "Ocean Blue" 3:36 5. "15 Storey Halo" 5:36 Side two 1. "A to Z" 2:49 2. "(How to Be A) Millionaire" 3:34 3. "Tower of London" 3:36 4. "So Hip It Hurts" 4:17 5. "Between You and Me" 3:16 How to Be a...Zillionaire! is an album by the band ABC. It was released in the autumn of 1985. Four singles were released from this album, "(How to Be A) Millionaire " (UK: 49, US: 20), " Be Near Me " (UK singles chart: 26, US Billboard Hot 100: 9), " Vanity Kills " (UK: 74, US: 91), and the fourth was " Ocean Blue ", (UK: 54). The album peaked on the UK Albums Chart at 28 and on the Billboard 200 at 30. On the cover the album's title is in the foreground lit up like a spotlight against a tri-tone background on which various quotes of the album's lyrics can be seen. There is also a drop shadow behind the title. No dialogue at the start of the song " Vanity Kills ". Eden (see band line up in next section) does the harmony vocal on the song " Ocean Blue ". Guitars completely absent from Side Two/Tracks 6–10. No cursing from Eden in the song "A to Z". Four seconds of silence between "A to Z" and "(How to Be a) Millionaire". Eden performs the breakdown vocal and plays the instrumental solo in the song "(How to Be a) Millionaire".

THE MOODY BLUES: THE PRESENT [UK 1985] LP THE MOODY BLUES: THE PRESENT [UK 1985] LP The Moody Blues "The Present" LP (Threshold) 1985 made in UK cat. num. 810 119-1 #rock #progressive rock A1 Blue World 5:16 A2 Meet Me Halfway 4:09 A3 Sitting At The Wheel 5:35 A4 Going Nowhere 5:27 B1 Hole In The World 1:55 B2 Under My Feet 4:48 B3 It's Cold Outside Your Heart 4:23 B4 Running Water 3:20 B5 I Am 1:41 B6 Sorry 4:56 ELO fans who found in Long Distance Voyager a new Discovery can be excused for thinking there's no Time like The Present. Just as ELO 's follow-up to the sweeping Discovery seemed tame by comparison, so The Present failed to match the grandiose arrangements of the Moodies ' previous record. It's still a solid effort, bolstered by strong songwriting and pleasant melodies, but as good as the opening "Blue World" is, its downbeat message is no substitute for the clarion call of "The Voice." The Present seems to make a conscious effort to scale back the arena-size sound of their previous album, returning to the warmly rendered ballads of old. Patrick Moraz, whose keyboards were a revelation on Long Distance Voyager, plays a diminished role here, as Justin Hayward 's guitar takes more of the lead, suggesting a poor man's Phil Manzanera or David Gilmour. While it charted well and provided hit singles in "Blue World" and "Sitting at the Wheel" (again, it's John Lodge who provides the most invigorating track), The Present is a gift that listeners will need to warm up to over time. Only after several sittings do Hayward 's lush ballads like "Meet Me Halfway" and "Running Water" sink in. Following the format of their last effort, the closing tracks are given to Ray Thomas, who once more proves a compelling presence (he's also the only good thing about "Going Nowhere"). "I Am" and "Sorry" amount to little more than love songs, but Thomas ' sense for dramatic arrangements manages to elevate the musical discussion. Given the now infrequent release of new albums by the Moody Blues, more could have been expected from The Present, but less could have been achieved (as the disappointing Keys of the Kingdom demonstrated). If it's merely average by Moodies standards, at least The Present didn't bode ill for the future.

COLOURBOX: THE OFFICIAL COLOURBOX WORLD CUP THEME [UK 1986] 7' COLOURBOX: THE OFFICIAL COLOURBOX WORLD CUP THEME [UK 1986] 7' Colourbox "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme" single 7" (4AD) 1986 made in UK cat. num. AD 605 #synth pop A The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme 3:06 B Philip Glass 3:29 One of the legendary 4AD label's earliest and most under-recognized acts, Colourbox were among the first artists outside of the realm of hip-hop to rely heavily on sampling techniques; ultimately, their arty blue-eyed soul -- a fusion of far-ranging influences spanning from classic R&B to dub to industrial -- reached its commercial and creative apotheosis through their work on M/A/R/R/S ' seminal "Pump Up the Volume" project, a reflection of the group's longstanding interest in the burgeoning underground dance music scene of the 1980s. Colourbox were primarily the work of London-based brothers Martyn and Steven Young, who recruited vocalist Debbion Currie to sing on their 1982 4AD debut, "Breakdown." Curry was replaced by Lorita Grahame in time for the trio's 1983 re-recording of the same track, this time produced by Mick Glossop. Colourbox 's self-titled debut EP -- a collection of dub and scratching experiments heralding their first plunge into sampling technology, edited down from three hours of studio sessions -- appeared later that same year, with the single "Say You" following in 1984. After another 12", "Punch," the group issued 1985's "The Moon Is Blue," a teaser for its upcoming full-length LP, also a self-titled affair; "Baby I Love You So" and "The Official Colourbox World Cup Theme" both appeared the following year. In 1987, at the behest of 4AD chief Ivo Watts-Russell, the Young brothers teamed with labelmates A.R. Kane as M/A/R/R/S to record a single fusing the rhythms and beats from classic soul recordings with state of the art electronics and production. Complete with scratches by champion mixer Chris "C.J." Mackintosh and London DJ Dave Dorrell, "Pump Up the Volume" -- a breakthrough effort heralding sampling's gradual absorption from hip-hop into dance music and ultimately the pop mainstream -- soon topped the British charts, the first 4AD release to accomplish that feat. Plans for a follow-up never materialized, however; stranger still, despite M/A/R/R/S ' success, both the Youngs and Colourbox seemed to vanish, with no future recordings forthcoming.

RIVER CITY PEOPLE - THIS IS THE WORLD - VINILO ORIGINAL 1991 PRIMEA EDICION EMI RIVER CITY PEOPLE - THIS IS THE WORLD - VINILO ORIGINAL 1991 PRIMEA EDICION EMI River City People fue un grupo de folk-rock de vida y éxito efímeros. Tracklist: 01. River City People - Standing In The Need Of Love [3:30] 02. River City People - Special Way [3:14] 03. River City People - Act Like A Child [3:46] 04. River City People - Hurt You [3:57] 05. River City People - Driver [3:24] 06. River City People - Move A Mountain [4:41] 07. River City People - Mile High Cafe [4:31] 08. River City People - True Stories From The Revolution [3:42] 09. River City People - The Sea [3:40] 10. River City People - High Tide [3:28] 11. River City People - This Is The World [4:57] River City People were a folk rock quartet formed in Liverpool, England in 1986, by vocalist Siobhan Maher, guitarist Tim Speed, his drummer brother Paul Speed, and bassist Dave Snell. Siobhan, Tim and Dave had both been with Liverpool Band "Peep Show" until summer 1987 - at one point both bands co-existed. The group appeared on Channel 4's The Chart Show and soon afterward signed with EMI, releasing their debut single "(What's Wrong With) Dreaming?" in mid 1989. Their album Say Something Good followed a few months later, recorded in Los Angeles and produced by legendary producer Don Gehman. In the summer of 1990, the band scored their biggest hit with a cover of The Mamas & the Papas' "California Dreamin'". This was a double A-side with "Carry the Blame". " This is the World " followed in late 1991, but the group disbanded shortly after. Maher then teamed with ex-Bangle Debbi Peterson in the duo Kindred Spirit, releasing a self-titled 1995 album on Capitol Records. She released a solo album in 2002 called Immigrant Flower.

While Oldfield is an amazing guitarist who could play with the best of them, with a lithe synth touch that became a trademark, the bottom line is that the man is a serious composer. All the proof one needs apart from his own records like Incantations and Hergest Ridge is this killer movie score. While Oldfield used a purely Western and neo-classical formal approach to write the music for Roland Joffé 's dramatization of true events, his musical mates were among the best in the business at helping him to bring it off: David Bedford wrote arrangements and directed the choir, while Eberhard Schoener helped to conduct and direct another choir (!) and master percussionist Morris Pert lent his talents to the mix as well. While many scores written during the 1980s come off as laughable fluff in the 21st century, Oldfield 's score for The Killing Fields is in many ways far more memorable than the film itself. The music here is full of drama, dynamic, textures, and unexpected twists and turns even in the smallest of the incidental pieces, and carries within it a certain majesty that lacks pomp and remains graceful throughout.

BURT BACHARACH: BSO LOST HORIZON [UK 1973] LP/FOL BURT BACHARACH: BSO LOST HORIZON [UK 1973] LP/FOL Burt Bacharach "BSO Lost Horizon" LP (Bell - Columbia) 1973 made in UK cat. num. SYBEL 8000 #soundtrack #easy listening Introduction 0:30 Lost Horizon 1:58 Share The Joy 2:42 The World Is A Circle 3:25 Living Together, Growing Together 3:21 I Might Frighten Her Away 2:38 The Things I Will Not Miss 3:13 If I Could Go Back 4:07 Where Knowledge Ends (Faith Begins) 3:43 Question Me An Answer 5:27 I Come To You 1:29 Reflections 1:50 When the motion picture musical Lost Horizon was unleashed upon the world in 1973, the reviews were unbelievably harsh and much of the criticism was aimed at composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David. However, even though many of the songs on this soundtrack are not as memorable as their more popular collaborations, this album is not that bad. In fact, many of the songs are quite catchy, including "The World Is a Circle" and "Reflections." Some of the vocals are sung by the actors, including Sally Kellerman and the late Bobby Van. Burt Bacharach has a certain knack for production of not-so-great singers (himself included) and, fortunately, it shows here with the actors. Other actors had their singing parts dubbed by more seasoned vocalists. Shawn Phillips is the singer on the title track.

DENIECE WILLIAMS: I'VE GOT THE NEXT DANCE [ESP 1979] 7” DENIECE WILLIAMS: I'VE GOT THE NEXT DANCE [ESP 1979] 7” Deniece Williams "I've Got The Next Dance" single 7" (CBS) 1979 made in Spain cat. num. CBS 7399 #disco #soul #funk a. I've got the next dance b. when love comes calling One of the most distinctive vocalists who arrived during the soul era, Deniece Williams is known for soaring, four-octave soprano voice, late-'70s and early-'80s R&B classics such as "Free" and "Silly," and the 1984 number one pop hit "Let's Hear It for the Boy." Born June Deniece Chandler in Gary, Indiana, she grew up singing in a Pentecostal church, which forbid the congregation to listen to anything but gospel music. Outside of wanting a 1959 Thunderbird, she had no serious ambitions but was deeply interested in music. Her favorite singers were Carmen McRae (for her diction) and Nancy Wilson, who, for Williams, exemplified class and elegance. However, her she also looked up to her parents, both of whom sang. From 1968 through 1970, Williams recorded a handful of singles for the Chicago-based Lock and Toddlin' Town labels as Deniece (or Denise) Chandler. None of them charted, but "I'm Walking Away" and "Mama, I Wish I Stayed Home" became Northern soul cult classics. In need of employment and with college on the back burner, the fledgling singer was introduced to personal hero Stevie Wonder by John Harris, her cousin from Detroit, who happened to be on tour as a valet for Wonder (and was also his childhood friend). Her cousin arranged for Williams to meet Wonder backstage at a concert. Six months later, Williams was flown into Detroit by Wonder for an audition. Among the 26 who auditioned, Williams, who sang "Teach Me Tonight," was one of three hired by Wonder. The three became known as Wonderlove. Her touring with Wonder lasted for several years, a period in which she recorded background vocals for Talking Book, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life, Wonder -produced Syreeta and Minnie Riperton sessions, and other releases by the likes of Esther Phillips and Roberta Flack.

GARY SHEARSTON: DINGO [ESP 1974] LP GARY SHEARSTON: DINGO [ESP 1974] LP Gary Shearston "Dingo" LP (Charisma) 1974 made in Spain cat. num. 63 69 958 #folk rock #pop rock Dingo Back Of Beyond Witnessing I Get A Kick Out Of You The Lightkeeper Of America Seagull And Swan The Ballad Of Blasted Creek Lump In The Bed Aborigine Without A Song b. 9 January 1939, Inverell, New South Wales, Australia. This singer-songwriter was also proficient on guitar and harmonica. Shearston moved with his family to Sydney at the age of 12, after his father’s farm was destroyed by drought. By the time Shearston was 19 he was a professional singer performing traditional Australian music in pubs, clubs and on radio and television. In the late 50s he made his first recording, for the Festival label, and this was followed by a number of albums for CBS Records in the early to mid-60s. Two of these albums were described as ‘among the best records of traditional music ever made in Australia’. In 1965, Shearston received an award for the best composition of the year when ‘Sometime Lovin’’ was covered by a number of artists including Peter Paul And Mary. In the mid-60s, together with Martyn Wyndham-Read, he recorded a live album on the Australian Score record label, although CBS would not let Shearston appear on the album. In addition, he had his own folk music television programme. Shearston then travelled to the USA in 1968 and lived there for the next four years. During the mid-70s Shearston relocated to Britain, where he recorded two albums for Charisma Records. Shearston’s one major hit in the UK came in 1974, when ‘I Get A Kick Out Of You’ made the Top 10. This single made Shearston the first Australian artist to have a simultaneous hit in Britain and Australia. Despite the long gap between albums he carried on and worked the folk clubs of Europe. Returning to Australia from England in 1988, Shearston was made a Deacon of the Anglican Church in December 1991, and has served in the parishes of Narrandera, Deniliquin, Hay, and Bangalow. In 2001, he released his first new studio album in over a decade.

Wilson in concert was sort of a cross between Sam Cooke and James Brown, putting on a riveting and strenuous show, but in the studio that very energetic and physical connection he could make with an audience didn't come so much into play, and his records are sort of Jackie Wilson light as a consequence. That doesn't mean they aren't good, though, and tracks here like "Reet Petite" (written by a young Berry Gordy -- many of Wilson 's songs during the Brunswick years were written or co-written by Gordy), "Lonely Teardrops," the impressive and moving "Shake Shake Shake," "I Don't Want To Lose You" and "Satisfy My Soul" are all classics and show Wilson 's considerable stylistic versatility.

PABLO CRUISE: PART OF THE GAME [A&M - CAN 1979] LP PABLO CRUISE: PART OF THE GAME [A&M - CAN 1979] LP Pablo Cruise "Part Of The Game" LP (A&M) 1979 made in Canada cat. num. SP-3712 #rock Part Of The Game 3:36 I Want You Tonight 5:29 When Love Is At Your Door 4:35 Givin' It Away 5:16 Tell Me That You Love Me 4:50 Lonely Nights 5:09 How Many Tears? 6:05 For Another Town 4:25 Pablo Cruise achieved some measure of success during the latter part of the '70s with their mellow, easygoing California pop. The band was formed in 1973 by former members of Stoneground and It's a Beautiful Day: guitarist Dave Jenkins, keyboardist Cory Lerios, bassist Bud Cockrell, and drummer Steve Price. The group was praised for its compositional and instrumental skill on the albums Pablo Cruise and Lifeline, and was rewarded with the Top Ten hit "Whatcha Gonna Do?" in 1977 from A Place in the Sun. Cockrell left and was replaced by former Santana bassist Bruce Day. Worlds Away went platinum, as did its predecessor, and produced three hit singles, including the Top Ten "Love Will Find a Way." By the time the '80s rolled around, the new wave movement was in full swing on the pop charts, and the group fell out of favor with the record-buying public. Several Pablo Cruise songs were used as soundtrack material for sports programs on ABC, CBS, and NBC, and the band's work also appeared in the films Free Ride, An Unmarried Woman, and Dreamer.
